Update on the Revival in Jena, LA

Update: Recent news from the internet about the Revival in Jena, LA can be found here.

This morning I posted information about Midway Baptist Church, a Pastorless SBC church in Jena, LA experiencing great revival. I’m amazed at the number of visitors hitting this web site because of Google searches for information about the Revival in Jena, LA.

One visitor contacted me to share about her experience at the revival services.

I returned earlier this evening from a several-hour visit in Jena, checking on this supposed “revival.”

There’s no “supposed” about it. I saw. This does seem to be a genuine movement of God.

I talked for an hour tonight with a Jena pastor who is not directly connected to this event, which now is in its fourth week. What’s happening, he said, is that God is speaking to His people, and I concur. Every one of the adults I talked with or heard of third-hand, previously had been dunked, and only now – for some, after decades of “living a lie,” as one said – really getting “right with God.”

Another account comes from John L. Yeats, the director of communications for the Louisiana Baptist Convention and recording secretary of the Southern Baptist Convention:

On Sunday evening, March 9, the community will start its fourth week of revival services. The meetings, now being held in the Jena High School gymnasium, are bringing together more people from the community than any church auditorium in the area can handle.

The location seems ironic. More than one person has asked, “Isn’t that the high school where all the troubles started that wounded this town?”

God often uses such things to confound those who see themselves as wise. On Feb. 17, the pastorless Midway Baptist Church started a “normal” spring revival meeting and, in answer to prayer, the Holy Spirit moved in power. Led by their interim pastor, Bill Robertson, confession of sin, worship, prayer and seeking forgiveness has become the “new normal” for this church.

Another Pastorless SBC Church in Jena, LA

In both of the above accounts it was mentioned that another Baptist church in Jena, LA (and also a participant congregation in these revival services) is the East Jena Baptist Church.

“This is the movement of God’s Spirit,” East Jena interim pastor John Hebert said. “It’s not the preaching. I think all Bill Robertson, the interim at Midway or Jimmy Young, the African American pastor, or I would need to do is stand and read John 3:16, extend the invitation and people would be saved.”

I’ll post more about the East Jena Baptist Church in another article.
