Disciples of Christ
There appears to be no central listing of open pastoral positions within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). While there is a central web site, the church is divided into regions, each with their own web sites. Buried within these regional web sites you will find congregation listings, and some of the listings show the current pastor to be an Interim Pastor. The Disciples of Christ is comprised of nearly 3,800 congregations which share these characteristics:
- Each congregation is self-governing and calls its own pastor.
- Worship services may be formal or informal, and include lay women and men in leadership.
- Open discussion of issues is encouraged. Diversity of opinion is common
- We are growing in racial and ethnic diversity.
A brief list core beliefs of The Disciples of Christ can be found on the “Beliefs” page of their international web site.
The Application Process
The Disciples of Christ have a specific process, entitled Search and Call, which ministers must adhere to as candidates for open pastoral positions. Complete guidelines for the Search and Call process can be found at The Office of Search and Call web site. The site also provides Guidelines for Ordination for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Caution: Each Region has their own procedure for submission of applications for open pastoral positions. If you find an opening you are interested in, please search the Regional site for instructions and forms.
Regional Staff information, including the names and contact information for the Regional Ministers, is found on the Regional Ministries web site. There is also a list of all Disciples of Christ churches with web sites.
Within the following web pages you will find congregations led by Interim Pastors. While this does not mean a congregation is actively seeking a Pastor, it does indicate they are searching for a full-time Pastor. Each page is updated by the corresponding regional office, and the information contained therin is expected to be current.
