January, 2012
Overview
Grace Fellowship exists to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ who have local, regional, and global impact, making disciples who make disciples (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19-20).
Grace Fellowship (www.grace-fellowship.net) can be characterized as a family of believers who look to God to faithfully provide every need while actively working to meet the needs of others.
Grace Fellowships founding pastor, Larry Katz, was chosen by God to begin and lead Grace Fellowship. God blessed his ministry richly for over 17 years. Grace experienced steady and healthy growth under Pastor Katzs leadership. Upon his retirement at age 70, average attendance was 1,100 including adults and children. As Pastor Katz transitioned out of full time ministry, God provided a new leader, who strategically helped to further develop an outward-focused ministry approach. Under the three year tenure of Senior Pastor Ed Short, Grace Fellowship gained renewed fervor in its desire and methods to remain relevant and to impact our rapidly changing culture. Grace maintains this passion for making an impact for Christ, both across the street and around the world.
Grace is known for expository yet "real-life" teaching. Many are attracted by the vital music and worship and by the outreach events that are designed to build bridges to the unchurched community by meeting practical needs and building relationships. This has always been a defining characteristic of the family goals of Grace Fellowship and has maintained vital emphasis throughout its history.
Key areas of ministry for Grace Fellowship include the Sunday Worship Celebrations (8, 9, & 10:45 AM), Sunday School classes for all ages, AWANA, a regionally-known Biblical Counseling ministry, the Youth Ministry, Mens and Womens ministries, a Worship Arts ministry and a strong Missions program. Grace Fellowship has added pastoral and support staff over the years growing to the current team of 24 full- and part-time employees.
Over the past several years, Grace Fellowship has experienced ever-growing diversity among our attending families. We consider it a blessing to be afforded the opportunity to minister to men, women and children of various ethnic and racial backgrounds. Were an ever changing church family reaching an ever changing culture.
Grace Fellowship opens its doors to the community by making its facilities available to community groups. This friendly outreach is the result of the warmth and openness of the leadership and the church family, and the church clearly wants to expand on this foundation and have even broader impact on the surrounding area going forward. It will be important that the next Senior Pastor is committed to continuing and deepening these important ties to the community.
Grace Fellowship has been blessed with opportunities to reach out to York City through partnerships with the mayors office, the York City School District and the York Rescue Mission. As well, a community garden was established that allows Grace Fellowship attenders to work side-by-side and establish personal relationships with inner city residents.
Grace Fellowship is set on 30 beautiful acres in the rolling hills of York County in South Central Pennsylvania. During the past 13 years the site has been developed to include an auditorium that potentially could seat 2200, a 1000 person gathering area in the lower level along with classrooms for adults and children. As you enter the church there is a large welcoming atrium and another large multi-purpose room, which was the original Sanctuary. In addition there is a cheery nursery, office space and a student center. There remains plenty of available land for future expansion. The property and facilities are outstanding and will allow for even greater future growth.
Church Governance
Grace Fellowships governing document is its Constitution and Bylaws. It is an Elder-led church. Under the bylaws, a Board of twelve men is elected by the congregation, based on nominations provided by the present Board. The Senior Pastor is also an Elder and may serve as Chairman of the Board. There is a Deacon Team, which is comprised of 12 men also elected by the congregation, based on nominations provided by the present Board. The deacons care for the church facilities and provide leadership for supporting the Worship Celebration and other large church functions. Elders and deacons serve 4-year terms.
The Senior Pastor largely provides the operational direction of the leadership team. Vision and strategic plans are set through a collaborative effort with senior staff and the Board of Elders. Major decisions including the hiring of pastoral staff, the initiation of any major building campaign and the approval of annual budgets require a vote of the congregation.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will first and foremost be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who models Gods love for people. He will view himself as a "Shepherd" who accepts as his personal calling Christs charge to the Apostle Peter, "If you love me, feed my sheep".
The Elder Board believes that Scripture presents the best description of the desired traits and characteristics of any Elder but especially Pastors. 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 serve as the basis for evaluation of prospective candidates.
Additionally, the new Pastor will be a strongly gifted Bible teacher. Utilizing both expository and topical styles, he should teach and preach in a manner that brings heart and purposeful life change(s). The richness of his teaching will flow out of the vitality of his own personal walk with God.
Equally important will be his effectiveness in lovingly relating to and working with and through people. This includes individuals, small groups, staff, ministry teams and large gatherings.
He will need to have demonstrated proficiency in selecting staff and building teams. Staff and key leaders will have access to the new Senior Pastor in order to understand the overall ministry vision and the role they are to play in moving the ministry plan forward.
He will exhibit a servant attitude and a Pastors shepherding heart. He will demonstrate a deep faith in Jesus Christ, a deep love for the study and teaching of Gods Word, and a supreme confidence in Gods ultimate blessing on Grace Fellowship, its mission, its people and its impact.
At the core of this mans giftedness will be the demonstrated capacity to provide strong persistent leadership and transfer vision to action. Grace is in need of a leader who can cast vision and patiently oversee the development of the action steps necessary to accomplish the vision. He will work in cooperation with the Elders and Staff in developing the vision and the strategic initiatives needed to accomplish it. He will also ensure that the congregation is kept up to date and aware of the vision.

Calvary Monument Bible Church

OVERVIEW OF THE CHURCH:
The mission statement of Calvary Monument Bible Church is, "Within and beyond our walls we will imitate Christ by our love, witness, and development of believers." Our catch phrase is, "Imitating Christ within and beyond our walls."
Spiritually our congregation is a mixed multitude. There is a strong core of highly committed Christians who are passionately in love with Jesus; they express this love as they interact with their brothers and sisters in Christ in the church and as they reach out beyond our church 'walls" sharing the love of Christ. There is also a group of unmotivated believers and not-yet believers who are involved in the church as spectators, not participants.
The committed core involves approximately 280 volunteers who engage in ministries within the walls such as: Sunday School and Adult Bible Fellowships; Awana; youth groups; small groups; prayer groups; womens ministries, Stephen Ministry (trained encouragers); GriefShare; an extensive ministry to shut-ins; mission support ministries; a variety of training opportunities; etc. Beyond the walls, members are engaged in: after-school childrens ministries with Child Evangelism Fellowship; community ministries like the Factory Youth Center; City Gate Mission; mission trips in the USA and overseas; and participation in a number of para-church organizations (Cornerstone Pregnancy Care Center, Hope International).
Currently, CMBC is searching for a new senior pastor who will further the vision of our church by equipping the body to fulfill its mission and who will fan the flame of those passionately in love with Christ while igniting a flame in the uncommitted who simply attend the church services. The current senior pastor, Bob Reid, has led CMBC for 32 years (since 1979). Before him Ken Wilcox served as senior pastor for two years, and before him Clarence Lefever served as senior pastor for 45 years. With these three men, the church has had an active ministry in our area since 1931.
Our church pastoral staffing currently consists of two full-time associate pastors: Pastor of Administration & Adult Ministries (7 years on staff) and Pastor of Youth and Young Adults (4 years on staff).
Other ministry staff include a part-time Childrens Director and a part-time Visitation Associate (shut-in ministry). The office staff consists of two full-time secretaries and one church administrator. The church also employs a full-time custodian and a part-time maintenance person.
CMBC is an Independent Bible Church that is evangelical in nature and style. The current pastoral staff have educational backgrounds from Philadelphia Biblical University, Moody Graduate School, and Lancaster Bible College & Graduate School.
The church currently has two Sunday morning worship services that are blended in style (mixture of contemporary and traditional). The current average attendance on a Sunday morning (both services) is 566, down from a high of 653 in 2005. Sunday School (Children & Youth) and Adult Bible Fellowships average 377 in attendance on a Sunday morning--students averaging 117 and the Adults 260. The Wednesday night Youth Ministry averages 17 junior high students and 25 senior high students. The Wednesday night Awana program is averaging 107 students.
The church age demographic is:
7% are of unknown age
29% are under age 24
15% are between the ages of 25 and 45
28% are between the ages of 46 and 65
20% are over the age of 65
CMBC is an area-wide church. Families will commute up to 30 minutes to attend our church. One unique aspect of our church is the number of extended families that attend here: parents, grandparents, children, and other relatives all worshiping together. We truly are a family!
The current ministries budget for 2011 is $769,000; the missions giving (separate from the general ministries budget) was $273,000 in 2010. Total giving to the church for all areas was over one million dollars. The church has no debt, and giving exceeded the budget for 2010.
The church is located in a rural setting. It sits on a 7.85 acre site (including cemetery) that is "land-locked". Any new building projects would require careful planning and approval from state and local agencies. The auditorium seats approximately 700 and was built in 1996, and the offices, foyer, and nurseries were remodeled in 1997. The fellowship hall / Awana game area / youth game area is equipped for 200 people and was built in 1983. The main childrens area and the adult classroom area were remodeled in 2007-2008.
CMBC MINISTRY AREA:
The church is located in the southeastern part of Lancaster County. The area in which CMBC ministers is made up of rural areas and small towns--Paradise, Gap, Quarryville, and the surrounding areas. The population of our ministry area is approximately 102,000 people, with 78% being white, 13% Hispanic, 5% black, and 3% Asian or other . The area is expected to grow by about 3.4% (less than the U.S. average). The average household income of the area is $53,700 a year. The primary "lifestyles" of this area can be described as rural working families and established country families. The Amish make up a significant portion of the population in our ministry area, and a number of ex-Amish do attend our church. While our ministry area is still known for conservative values and strong family units there is a growing influx of non-traditional family structures.
Our community enjoys a unique balance of scenic, agricultural landscape with small-town living, but in close proximity to the major metropolitan areas of Philadelphia (1-1/4 hrs), Baltimore (1-3/4 hrs), and Washington D.C. (2-1/2 hrs). Outlet malls are only 15 minutes away, as are numerous tourist and shopping attractions. The city of Lancaster (population of 55,000) is approximately 25 minutes away from the church.
There are many K-12 schooling options available in our area, including multiple public and private schools depending on where a family resides and on personal preferences, Home school co-ops are also available. All three schooling options (public, private, home school) are represented in our congregation. For college education there are several local options, including public (Millersville), private (Franklin & Marshall), Christian (Lancaster Bible College), and technical (Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology).
