I’ve Noticed a Trend

Could it be that a pastor’s unhappiness increases after the Sunday and mid-week services? I ask this because the traffic on this site increases dramatically on Monday. The second highest traffic is usually on Thursday. Why?

A 700 Page Portable Seminary

Assuming most churches hold mid-week services on Wednesday, the trend could actually speak to a pastor’s feelings about his congregation, or an increased awareness that (s)he is in the wrong place.

It could be, though, that Monday is usually the pastor’s day off. In that case the trend may be because there’s more quality time available for a focused job search.

I’d like to see your comments. Tell me what motivates you to check pastoral openings on Monday or Thursday… or an other day, for that matter. Come on… Share your heart. It may be that we can help each other out.

personally,as a new minister seeking a pastorate, mondays & thursdays are usually when the newest jobs are posted.I don`t think it`s anything other than that;if you are going to job seek, why not look on those days?

I also wonder what percentage of this “traffic” are ministers who are currently unemployed in the ministry? To get a clearer perspective of the demographics of the “trafic”,you would need to run a poll.Once you`ve established a demographic, then you could form a more solid opinion and make any possible adjustments deemed necessary. This would give you a much better understanding of “who” is doing the looking.

As an active volunteer in a prison ministry since 1984, and called to it with a Word from the Lord while doing state time, I find that everytime I go to the jail to lead a Bible study I desire to go in again the next day . But that isn`t possible becuz this ministry that I`m a member of only goes in Tuesdays and Sundays. My heart is evangelism..surprise, huh ? .. I don`t see how a pastor can get depressed the day after church for there is so much to do besides visiting the sick, those who can`t get out for church, home Bible study, and most importantly, spending time in prayer as much as they desire.I got a Word from the Lord sending me out as an evangelist. Tho no one has requested me I know it will happen for it is not of my choosing, only a request that the Lord use me more. Theological schooling is out of the question for there is no way my wife and I can squeeze out another dollar, but I am content. In my opinion, a pastor who is unempolyed should spend his time in the Word and prayer and volunteer to help a non-profit organization for there are many hurting people out there who can greatlybenefit from His wisdom. Amen ! Jim

My husband has always said that Mondays are the hardest days of the week. Sunday is an exhausting day that goes from 7 am to 8 pm, at least for my husband who is a Minister of Education but wears about ten other hats. He’s the one people go to because he is easier to talk to than our Pastor. He’s the one who knows all the answers to all of the questions, locks up (even though we have a staff of 5 custodians). My husband has a heart for God, he is the strongest man I know. I get frustrated as a Minister’s wife because of the tons of pressure people put on him, but he remains steady, never failing in his love for Christ and serving Him. Right now we are searching for a new church because without saying too much, we’ve been hurt at this one. I may sound bitter, so I thought I better explain if I’m not filled with love right now. I come to the website every Monday hoping for a new position to have shown up. My husband has a gift, and I know I may never be another Ruth Graham, as much as I pray I could be like she was. I’ve started off soft but my heart has hardened, and I hate that because I like being soft and loving and helping people. Church work is hard, no question. I don’t think you need to take a poll or stats or anything else to know that. Bottom line, it’s exhausting and some of us have been hurt, a lot of us are exhausted, and after Sunday something different looks very good. Of course you have to take the lessons learned to the next church to avoid repeating the past. Bottom line, God is in control, and I have to remember that-we all do–He has a plan: I praise Him for that! (I just wish He’d let us in on what WE’RE supposed to be doing next!)

    Hey,

I actually check your site everyday. Along with all the others. Sometimes 2-3 times a day.

The last church that I pastored was nearly 4 years ago. It was a one year interim, and I subsequently accepted an Associate position just to keep busy while in transition

I have found that just keeping busy is not enough. In fact for me it creates problems, and without knowing it creates strife. I was getting more serious about finding my next place but had been lax in looking steadily for one because I am comfortable with the people I am around. But on Christmas eve, my uncle passed away at age 46. I was 900 miles away, and could do nothing. I went for a long walk after i got the news and decided 2 things. First my family is more important to me than now, and second life is to short to live frustrated. I know what my call is but have just been passing time waiting. Well I am done waiting. It is time. So with God’s help and people like you who keep this info up to date, I will get back in the race.

I sometimes think that If i were not non-denominational, I would have a place. There are hundreds of Baptist churches out there that are looking. Being independent brings about alot of closed doors. I have been turned down probably a hundred times because I am charismatic. Meaning i believe in 1 Corinthians 12. I would be willing to receive any church who would have me at this point. I do have a family of five, and some of the smaller churches can’t support that. but I have always worked other jobs…

So Yeah I look on Monday’s and thursdays, and tuesdays and wednesdays, and fridays and on weekends. I know that something is going to open this year.
